Cape York is a great place to visit,  wouldn't want to really live up there. The roads are horrific most of the time with corrugations that jar everything in the vehicle. Everyone should do it at least once, but don't take your van unless it's designed for rough roads. Weipa is probably the best fishing I have ever experienced except for maybe Mapoon. The cape is a long way from nowhere. Remember Townsville is only half way up the Queensland coast, The average mexican tourist does not realise the distances involved.

I have been to the cape area couple of times in a few different vehicles. The one with the least amount of trouble was the V8 Landover discovery. Go anywhere except past a petrol station. This particular trip was with a V6 Pajero and a couple of trailers. Plus boats of course. The story is for information of future tourists who want to go there and come back safely.

Remember it's free to cross the Daintree river on the ferry but around $80.00 to cross the Jardine river in the next ferry up the track in Aboriginal land.
